This was our first time camping at the Yosemite / Mariposa KOA. Our expectations were not very high given the recent poor ratings by other reviewers, but we were pleasantly surprised. Check-in was easy, and the front desk staff was very friendly. We stayed in campsite #38, a 50 amp pull-through site and found it easy to get into with our 36' motorhome while towing our car. Interior roads are paved while parking strips in campsites are mostly gravel. Some RV campsites have grass. All campsites have a standing BBQ pit, movable picnic table, and are graded level. The RV campsites are close together but wide enough to park a car along side the RV in the site without encroaching on a neighboring site. We met one of the owners during our stay and learned that they have been renovating the park, and it shows. The store and gift shop were small but stocked well with a sufficient variety of necessities including fresh items like milk and eggs. Restrooms were clean and modern. We didn't find noise or rude neighbors to be an issue at all during our four night stay. Overall, this is a great place to camp in an RV if you want to have hookups and be close to Yosemite. The drive between the campground and the Visitor's Center in Yosemite Valley is about an hour.

We found this to be a very relaxing place to camp in our RV. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are clean and safe. The ice cream is awesome! This is a good destination for RVs and trailers but there are several good areas for tents as well. I recommend Collins Lake for anyone looking for a good place to camp with the family or have a weekend outing, but not for full-timers looking for high-end facilities or paved camp sites. Interior roads are mostly gravel and sites are basically level, although you may need 2" to 3" of wheel blocks on a few sites to level your rig. This campground features a lot of trees, so shade is never a concern.

This was our second visit to San Simeon State Park. We stayed in the lower campground area known as San Simeon Creek. Parts of the campground can be windy, depending on the orientation of your campsite and the number of trees and shrubs around your site. This is a very family-friendly campground and relatively quiet. We felt very safe here and the State Park Service regularly patrolled the grounds. There are no hookups but the dump station has easy access and there is a potable water fill station near the entrance. Each campsite has a paved parking spur, picnic table and fire ring. Most of the campsites are level and well-spaced with native shrubs and trees providing privacy between sites. There is also a large grassy area in the center of the lower campground area where children are often seen playing. Tip: Campsites with a blue marker plate on the sign post accommodate the larger coaches up to 35' in length. In addition, many of the parking spurs are wide enough for two vehicles to be parked side-by-side. This is a plus for motor homes with a dingy. San Simeon State Park is a great place to stay with Hearst Castle and Cambria nearby.

This is a great place to stay if you are touring on California Highway 1 and would like a clean, safe, ocean-front place to stay. All of the campsites were recently renovated to include paved parking spurs with room for a recreational vehicle and a tow vehicle along side. Sites are well spaced but there are few trees or shrubs to provide privacy. Ocean-front sites have a relatively unobstructed view of the water with only a few trees and shrubs to contend with. Picnic tables and fire rings provided but you must back in to the ocean-front sites for these amenities to be on the curb side of your rig. It was quite windy during our stay which discouraged us from cooking outdoors or using the fire ring.
